There really is no concrete information. I'm still thinking sometime around 2012, but if the PS3 starts picking up steam, they may push it back further. The good news is that PS3 games should only get better and better, which will help tide us over. It will almost certainly be called the PlayStation 4, as that's Sony's videogame brand name. If they changed that, half their brand recognition is gone.

    Exclamation Ideas

On the main page it asks to post ideas for the PS4. Is it possible for your message to not be looked at?

If you want to respond to an article but don't want your message posted for everyone to see, just indicate as much in your message and we'll remove it from sight after viewing it. That said, we'd rather you be willing to share your ideas with everyone to get more people involved in the discussion and help fuel everyone's creativity.

The current generation consoles has been costly for both MS and Sony. The ps3 were too expensive because of the Blu-Ray drive and have been sold at a loss for quite some time, while the xbox 360 had good specs and were priced well but were build like crap, causing 30% of machines to overheat in the first 2 years. I think both companies are gonna ride their consoles for as long as possible to make up those losses.

The ps3(like the ps2) is very different and difficult to program, and im sure that developers will come up with ways to squeeze alot more out of it (lets hope that claims about the ps3 not running at it's full potential are true)

With all that said, I think the ps4 will only be released in late 2014, at the earliest. The ps3 is awesome, and still has alot going for it.

I agree. It's been a rough ride for both MS and Sony this generation, and I think they'll need to milk their current consoles as long as possible to make up for the early losses. I'm not even sure the market will be able to sustain any new consoles for some time.

And I'm sure developers WILL squeeze more and more out of the PS3. We've seen it with every single system in the past, where developers continue to get better and better at utilizing the hardware, and coming up with new tricks to maximize its potential. When you're talking about a console as complex as the PS3, there's no doubt the games will only continue to get better as developers learn its secrets and develop techniques to better develop games for it.

    2014... No way.

2011/2012 at the latest. I know many disagree, but if you look at all the current and upcoming hardware on the market. The next batch sets everyone up for 2011/2012. Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony.

I haven't heard any authentic source to discuss or even talk about ps4 yet to be very honest. It could be true it could be rumor no one really knows until PlayStation didn't do a press conference and tell us more about it. Even if it's under production then expect it in mid 2011

As I said on one of the other threads I really doubt we will see the release of the ps4 before 2013. This is the year of PSMove. Sony are banking on picking up the casual market. The casual market will not want to buy a PS3 and Move and then fall in love with it only to have to replace it within 2 years. I think 2013 is the earliest they can hope to release the new console and hope for it to see a decent market take up.

Sony have released a statement saying that they will be last to enter the next generation of consoles.

So my guess is that the PS4 will be released much further in the future then what other people have stated
